Dear Parents,

Welcome to Barnard Early Childhood Center!  We are home to the District’s only pre-school programs (UPK and magnet) as well as our magnet kindergarten, grades 1 and 2.  We offer a comprehensive educational experience which includes physical education, fine arts, Italian and library media.  Students will have experiences at each grade level that align with the New York Common Core Learning Standards.  There will be opportunities throughout the year to visit the school, as well as hear about our curriculum and what it means for your child.

We have been busy this summer preparing for the 2014-2015 school year.  Our first day for all kindergarten through grade 2 students will be Wednesday, September 3rd .  This will be a half-day of school. Dismissal is at 11:40 am.  Please inform your child’s teacher regarding how your child is being transported to and from school, and if there are any special arrangements.   Our pre-school children will begin their transition on Monday, September 22nd .  We are excited to meet our new students, and to see our returning students well rested and ready to learn!

Looking ahead to our first month’s activities, please mark your calendars for the first PTA meeting on September 9th, Amy’s Greenhouse 9/11 Memorial on the 11th, the Puentes Pre-K and New Families to Barnard meeting also on the 11th, and our kindergarten through grade 2 Meet the Teacher Night Thursday, September 18t.  at 6:30 pm. We strongly recommend this event be for adults only.  We will meet in the auditorium for an introduction, and proceed to the classrooms to meet your child’s teachers. Translation devices will be available for those who will need them for the auditorium presentation.  Please remember, this is an open meeting, and not a time for a personal conference. You will have the opportunity to register for a conference before or after the teacher’s presentation.

On behalf of the entire staff and myself, we look forward to working together to ensure success for every child here at Barnard.

Respectfully,

Joanna Genovese

A New Beginning

Dear CSDNR Family,

A New Beginning

With excitement and anticipation, I welcome you to the 2014-15 school year. Today on the first day of school, from the elementary to middle schools to the high school, I saw fantastic energy and enthusiasm among students, teachers and staff. We began by coming together yesterday at our staff opening convocation, in an inspiring beginning to the new school year. I share that first-day enthusiasm, as do our administrators and Board of Education. As your new Superintendent, I know that our also new Board of Education President Lianne Merchant and her esteemed colleagues are prepared to harness the power of a fresh perspective – adding that to a passion for building on our numerous existing successes. Working together, I am confident that we can sustain that “first day” feeling for all of us as we embark on this year’s educational journey.

Preparing for the School Year

This summer, many teachers engaged in curriculum writing, continuing education and professional enrichment opportunities. I have spent the summer getting to know this wonderful district and its dedicated employees. In the past several days, we have expanded our activity by welcoming and orienting 47 new staff members (see more at www.nred.org), congratulating 25 new tenure recipients at the Tuesday, September 2 Board meeting, and beginning an in-depth analysis of the grades 3-8 state test scores, 2013-14 New Rochelle ELA and Math Results.pdf.

2014 New York State English/Language Arts and Math Assessment Results

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has released ELA and Math assessment results. Please note that there was a technical error by the Lower Hudson Regional Information Center (LHRIC) in submitting the District's grade 5 math scores to NYSED. Grade 5 math scores were inaccurately displayed upon initial posting to NYSED's website and will be unavailable until the LHRIC and NYSED remedy the situation. Parent reports will be mailed by the LHRIC in September. For further inquiries please contact your school's administrator.
